Construction Impact Assessment Report and monitoring regime for works adjacent to a live rail corridor.
The challenge
Construction next to a live railway must demonstrate, in advance, that it will not threaten the operating asset — to the satisfaction of the rail authority.
Our approach
We prepared a CIAR quantifying ground-movement and vibration risk, set trigger levels, and designed an instrumentation and monitoring regime accepted by the authority before works began.
The outcome
The assessment was accepted and the adjacent works proceeded under a monitoring regime with agreed response thresholds.
Project timeline
Weeks 1-2
Baseline survey
Existing-condition survey of the rail corridor and structures.
Weeks 3-5
Impact assessment
Ground-movement and vibration modelling with trigger levels set.
Weeks 6-7
Monitoring design
Instrumentation regime and response plan agreed with the authority.
