Gabion retaining structures and bioengineered slope protection above a road.
The challenge
Stabilise an eroding embankment threatening a road, using methods that tolerate movement and drain freely.
Our approach
We built gabion retaining structures with a free-draining backfill and planted the face for long-term reinforcement, keeping the road open under traffic management.
The outcome
The 320 m embankment was stabilised and the road protected, with the gabion face greening over as designed.

Months 2-4
Gabion construction
