A 1.4 km elevated rail viaduct built over live arterial roads without closing them.
The challenge
Erecting segmental box girders above active traffic, with strict deflection and noise limits and zero tolerance for a dropped load over a public corridor.
Our approach
We used an overhead launching gantry for night-time segment placement, real-time geometry control on each cast segment, and continuous load and deflection instrumentation tied to agreed trigger levels.
The outcome
Viaduct completed on programme with no unplanned road closures and every segment within geometric tolerance.
Project timeline
Months 1-2
Mobilization & traffic management
Hoarding, site offices and an authority-approved traffic-management plan.
Months 2-8
Bored-pile foundations
Large-diameter bored piles with instrumented load testing.
Months 6-14
Piers & pier-heads
Cast-in-place piers using self-climbing formwork.
Months 12-22
Segmental girder erection
Overhead launching gantry, night-window placement over live roads.
Months 20-25
Deck finishing & M&E
Track plinth, drainage, parapets and rail-systems interfaces.
Month 26
Testing & handover
Structural verification, as-built documentation and handover.
